Rules

To participate in the Kong Mountain Marathon you will need to adhere to the following rules:

  1. By entering this event you fully accept the inherent risks of participating in a challenging navigation and fell running race in mountainous terrain in potentially bad weather:
    1. You accept the hazards inherent in fell running and acknowledge that you are entering and running this race at your own risk.
    2. You are aware of the rules imposed on me by the Race Organiser and you will comply with them.
    3. You acknowledge and agree that you are responsible for determining whether you have the skills equipment and fitness to participate in this event.
    4. You confirm that you have the navigational skills appropriate for this race and will carry throughout the race any equipment specified by the organiser.
    5. You accept that the Race Organiser shall NOT be liable for any injury, loss or damage of any nature to you or your property arising out of your participation in this race (other than in respect of death or personal injury as a result of their negligence).
  2. All competitors MUST report to the overnight camp/finish and present themselves and their dibber as soon as possible, especially if they are retiring. This is a vital safety check. Failure to do so could result in a mountain rescue call out and may result in a lifetime ban from the Kong Mountain Marathons.
  3. All competitors must follow the Countryside Code. In particular it is forbidden to climb maintained walls or fences. Enclosed farmland may only be crossed on a public right of way.
  4. We have a strict NO littering policy – any participant seen dropping litter will be disqualified.
  5. Participants must comply with the minimum and therefore mandatory kit list as specified on this website. Random kit checks will be in operation and you will be disqualified if you do not have the right kit.
  6. The map may have Out of Bounds areas, Uncrossable Boundaries and Crossing Points marked on it. These must all be respected. An Uncrossable Boundary may not mean it is physically uncrossable, but crossing it is deemed to be in breach of the rules and will lead to disqualification.
  7. Any competitor who acts in a manner that brings the event into disrepute or endangers another competitor, marshal or member of the public will receive a lifetime ban from the Kong Mountain Marathons.
  8. There is a minimum age limit on the A and B linear courses of 18 years old; on the Long score course of 16 years old and on the C linear course and the short score courses of 14 years old (all ages on the Saturday of the race).
  9. A junior runner is one who is under 18 on the Saturday of the event. Where one of the two runners is under 18, the other runner must be 21 or over and must be the “accompanying adult” appointed by the parent or guardian of the junior runner.
  10. Where the “accompanying adult” is not the parent or guardian of the junior runner a Kong Mountain Marathon Parental/Guardian Consent Form must be completed and signed by the parent or guardian – link to be provided later and the signed form needs to be brought to registration.
  11. Every pair must remain together, with all of their equipment, at all times except in the event of an emergency. This means within voice and visual contact. Both team members must visit every control.
  12. If one team member retires then the second team member must also retire and accompany his/her team mate back to the event centre.
  13. No dogs are allowed on the competition area.
  14. The use of GPS, GPS phones or any satellite navigation devices are not permitted,  barometric altimeters however are allowed. Mobile phones may be carried for emergency use and for use of camera function only. Anyone using any such device for navigation purposes will be disqualified. A GPS tracker may be used to record a competitor’s track solely for use after the event.
  15. Competitors must carry all of their event food with them. No food or drinks can be purchased at the overnight camp. Meals will be provided to all runners after the finish on Sunday.
  16. By entering the race you consent to publication of your name, club, race category, race number, finishing time and race position in race pre-entry and results lists and accept that the Race Organiser may use photographic or video equipment to record the race and use for marketing purposes.
